Renormalization-group Investigation of the S = 1 Random Antiferromagnetic Heisenberg Chain

چکیده
We introduce variants of the Ma-Dasgupta renormalization-group (RG) approach for random quantum spin chains, in which the energy-scale is reduced by decimation built on either perturbative or non-perturbative principles. In one non-perturbative version of the method, we require the exact invariance of the lowest gaps, while in a second class of perturbative Ma-Dasgupta techniques, different decimation rules are utilized. For the S = 1 random antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chain, both type of methods provide the same type of disorder dependent phase diagram, which is in agreement with densitymatrix renormalization-group (DMRG) calculations and previous studies.

The density matrix renormalization group method is generalized to one dimensional random systems. Using this method, the energy gap distribution of the spin-1/2 random antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chain is calculated. The results are consistent with the predictions of the renormalization group theory demonstrating the effectiveness of the present method in random systems. The possible applicati...

The low energy properties of the spin-1/2 random Heisenberg chain with ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic interactions are studied by means of the density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) and real space renormalization group (RSRG) method for finite chains. The results of the two methods are consistent with each other. The deviation of the gap distribution from that of the random singlet ph...
متن کاملPhase diagrams and universality classes of random antiferromagnetic spin ladders
The random antiferromagnetic two-leg and zigzag spin-1 /2 ladders are investigated using the real space renormalization group scheme and their complete phase diagrams are determined. We demonstrate that the first system belongs to the same universality class of the dimerized random spin-1 /2 chain. The zigzag ladder, on the other hand, is in a random singlet phase at weak frustration and disord...

We study the spin-1 chain with nearest neighbor couplings that are rotationally invariant, but include both Heisenberg and biquadratic exchange, with random strengths. We demonstrate, using perturbative renormalization group methods as well as exact diagonalization of clusters, that the system generates ferromagnetic couplings under certain circumstances even when all the bare couplings are ant...
متن کاملDensity Matrix Renormalization Group Study of Random Dimerized Antiferromagnetic Heisenberg Chains
The effect of dimerization on the random antiferomagnetic Heisenberg chain with spin 1/2 is studied by the density matrix renormalization group method. The ground state energy, the energy gap distribution and the string order parameter are calculated. Using the finite size scaling analysis, the dimerization dependence of the these quantities are obtained. The ground state energy gain due to dim...
